“Childless Cat Lady” Summer 2024 - a response to Vice Presidential nominee, JD Vance’s comment about “Childless cat ladies with no stake in this country.” As a cat-owner poised to undergo a hysterectomy, I bristled at the turn of phrase and painted this to blow off some steam. Yes, that is my uterus in the jar.

The character of Hagrietta was created for Friendly City Fables - a fantasy role-playing-game-inspired improv show that debuted in October 2023. She is a Swamp Hag who joins the rest of the adventurers as she is doing community service for crimes against the patriarchy.

Playing this character monthly led to discoveries of her backstory and diving into all the characters and personality traits that inspired her. It turns out, she is merely an extension of myself - a repository of all my insecurities, amplified and daring anyone to object. Hagrietta stands her ground and loves herself, warts and all. She has given me great comfort and strength in challenging times.
